BB Season 13, Game 4

We had several interesting upsets this round. Red Storm Il went Crunch Time against GuitarHeroesIV’s Take It Easy, and brought in a huge win in front of a home crowd. Cathar Heretics finally unleashed his starters, and put away Wheels World to gain their first league win this season. And Iron Dukes put their first win on the board by holding off an impressive comeback by West Virginia Mountaineer. Single game stats are below.

Today we release the Opponent Adjusted season rankings. Here, we basically adjust each game based on the strength of that game’s opponent. Playing a tough opponent close will get you a positive rating. Barely beating a lousy opponent will get you a negative rating. Currently there really have not been enough games played to provide significant results based on this method, but another game or two should align things up nicely.

Now here is the season ratings with opponent adjustments. You can see several teams moving around quite a bit. Riverside drops 21 points in overall rating due to his easy schedule so far. Iron Dukes does not have a single positive game in terms of raw values, but 3 of his 4 matches are positive after adjusting for opponents, causing a huge rise in the rankings for him. We can call the trend the “Cathar Heretics Effect.” He played offense so poorly the first three games it severely skewed the defensive ratings for his opponents, causing the SoS values to be thrown off kilter. It will diffuse over time, but for now, it remains a fairly strong negative impact for the good teams in the Great 8, and a strong positive impact for the opponents of the good teams.
